What was your first EVER Gunpla model kit/how did you get into the hobby?

Me, I was on you-tube watching some videos for miniature painting and a 2old4toys video was featured on the side so i clicked and watched. and then watched another, and so on. that weekend I took a trip to Sydney ( about an hour on the train ), went to hobby co and bought an SD Force impulse kit because it looked wicked cool with it's little winged jet pack and stand.

My very first MODEL kit was snap-fit Corvette Stingray (1979). I then did jets and ships etc for several years. I sorta stopped once in High school. When I came to Japan many years after that, I was walking in a hobby store and the ZZ Gundam SD kit caught my eye. The price was right so I took it home and my model building interest was re-kindled.

As a kid, started with a few Airfix dinosaurs, Space shuttle, xWing fighter, Cylon Base, R2D2, B.O.B from The Black Hole... F1 cars... WW2 planes... Then I got a Roundfacer mech, then a holiday visit to Hong Kong I picked up a cool looking vf 1s (cos it looked like transformers JetFire) also a F91 1/100 scale cos it was nearby and looked nice. The articulation was unlike anything I'd built before. Better than a lot of proper action figures! and the wonderful gimmicks! That was my 1st Gunpla.

When I was little, I got into Gundam Wing and started buying a lot of the Wing-releated suits. I dropped out for a few years, but then I got an HG Strike Freedom on a trip to Shanghai...I didn't built it till a few years later when I was very bored one day, but that got my interest back in model kits, so I started buying them again.

I'm not sure which of the following 4 was my very 1st kit since there all Gundam Wing Kits, but those 1st four are all 1/144 kits. Wing Zero, Eypon, Vayete, and Tallgeese 3 and they are all missing parts which is a shame.

[i] ok i just finished my first gundam..and it was a total fubar moment! i want to ask the forum what i did wrong.. the build went fine ..but the custom paint was a total nightmare Sad i used two kinds of testors spray paints on my 1/100 no grade red astray ,on the white armor i used testors laquer paint (blazing black) and it came out great!... i used testors acrylic enamel (sapphire blue mettalic) and that was a complete disaster! it wouldnt stick uniformly to the plastic, it dried like geletin not hard like the laquer and it made the prgs in the hands and back pack brittle and they shattered.. and some of the joints weakend and are loose .Can someone tell me what i did wrong?

my first gunpla was the 1/144 HG Sandrock Custom back when it came out in like 1996 or 1997 or something. After building it, I treated it like an action figure and sure enough it broke at a lot of points.
after that I got the 1/144 NGs of Wing, Master and God Gundam. master gundam's forearms broke, I dunno what happened to my God Gundam. As for the Wing, I found em in a box of old stuff from our old house. I repainted him in the same colors and detailed some parts.

I got back into gundam model kits after 00 season 2 finished airing in Japan. Passed by a toy store and saw a 1/144 HG Trans-am Exia and thought the colors on him looked super badass. Picked it up a week later, love the kit. started looking up pictures of gunpla, came across prime92's channel and basically my toy collecting craze started from there. that was in June of 2009 I think. I've spent a small fortune on model kits and action figures now XD and here I am posting in a gundam forum.

Aw man, that really brings me back. My first venture into gunpla was with a little 1/144 Wing Gundam I bought at a hobby store up in Atlanta. However, I never really got into it considering I had the attention span of a five year old. I did really start to get into gunpla with the RG RX-78-2. And, having just watched MS:G 0079, I also bought a couple HGUCs and a MG Gouf 2.0 to go along with it... Wink

Anyway. Kind of boring 'first gunpla kit' story, but still. It was an important part of my childhood, that Wing Gundam.

never did find one, however, I finally got the 1/100 NG.  Having never made a gundam i didn't know what to expect.  I made that one and the blue frame, but it was another year or so before I actually started making them regularly.
